We weren't named Lakeland by accident.

Many outdoor activities here revolve around our 38 named lakes. Freshwater bass fishing is among the most popular pursuits, along with sailing, water skiing, swimming and jet skiing.

But there are also a number of golf courses, gardens and public spaces to enjoy. Of particular interest is the recently opened Common Grounds Park, which offers walking trails, baseball and soccer fields, and play zones just for kids, including:

• Fossil Beach
• Gopher Mountain
• Journey Plateau
• Sculpture Gulch

Other major parks include Lake Parker Park, a 100-acre oasis with playgrounds, boating, fishing, nature trails, picnic pavilions, sand courts and jogging paths.
